Padel, a short form racket sport played in walled courts one-third of the size of a tennis court, is widely considered the fastest-growing sport in the world with over 25 million players in 110 countries.
These are the sort of stats that get corporate sponsors interested, and Certina has grabbed the opportunity to work with one of its leading players, Marta Ortega, a professional Spanish padel player, who is currently sixth in the World Padel Tour ranking, and, with 200,000 Instagram followers, second only to Beatriz Gonzalez as a global star.
To cement the association, Certina has collaborated with Ms Ortega on a new DS-7 Chrono Padel Edition, which she has signed on its case back.
The watch is powered by a Swiss-made quartz-chronograph movement that can measure time down to 1/10th of a second and comes in a black PVD-coated 41mm stainless steel case.
Its dial is made from the same carbon fibre used in padel rackets and has a small padel tennis ball at 6 o’clock. Ms Orgega says she will wear her new Certina “with great pride”.
Certina has been associated with padel since 2021 and signed Ms Ortega as a brand ambassador in 2023.

In addition to the Marta Ortega special edition, which retails for the equivalent of CHF 615, there are also DS-7 Chrono models in steel, with or without gold or black PVD treatment ranging in price from CHF 595 to CHF 635 and a titanium model with a blue dial on sale for CHF 750.
